Retired Teachers to meet Thursday

The last meeting for the 2008- 09 school year for the Milam County Retired Teachers Association will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4 at the Rockdale General Store meeting room.

A salad luncheon will be served and members are asked to bring a favorite salad, according to Carolyn Hafley, secretary. Officers will provide desserts, tea, plates and utensils.

"Awards and a memorial service will follow the lunch and members are reminded to pay their dues as soon as possible," Hafley said.

Alcoa retirees will meet at KC Hall June 11

Alcoa Retirees Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 11 at the Rockdale KC Hall. A fried fish dinner, catered by Poor Boy's Barbecue, will be served, priced at $8 per plate.

Members whose last names begin with A-L are asked to bring a dessert and a silent auction item. "No gifts please for the drawing," said Lanell Spence, publicist.

Special Needs Network fun day set for June 13

The non-profit Special Needs Network will hold its first annual "Meet and Greet Fun Day" from 2 until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Wolf Park and the I&GN Depot/ Museum on North Main Street in downtown Rockdale.

"This is a time for families of children with varied disabilities to have a common center by coming together for food, fun and fellowship," said Denitra Lewis, spokesperson.

Horseshoe tourney to benefit CMN June 6

CAMERON—A horseshoe tournament benefiting the Children's Miracle Network has been scheduled, according to organizer Lois Rodgers of Cameron.

The event will take place Saturday, June 6 at Lions Park in Temple (off Hickory Street). Registration begins at 9 a.m. and play will start at 10. Fee is $10 a team and recognition awards will be presented, Rodgers said.

Meeting set Wednesday on homeschooling

An informational meeting on homeschooling has been scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Meadowbrook Bapt ist Church, 1401 Colorado Avenue n Rockdale, according to Katie Dillon, spokesperson.

"If anyone has been considering homeschooling, or wanting to know more about the possibility, this meeting will provide vital information," Dillon said.

"If you have already been homeschooling and just need some support and fellowship, you are invited to join us as we share our knowledge with each other," she said.

"We are meeting as a homeschool group each second Wednesday to share encouragement and information," she added.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Lifesavers reschedule 2nd softball tourney

Team Lifesavers, the Relay For Life team from Little River Healthcare System, will host its 2nd annual co-ed softball tournament on Saturday, July 18, ac cord ing to K im Jeter, publicist.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. at the Rockdale Girls Softball fields. The original date of April 18 was rained out.

Rockdale Rotary Club

Rockdale Rotary Club meets at noon each Tuesday at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.

Noon Lions Club

Rockdale Noon Lions Club meets each first and third Wednesday at the Rockdale VFD fire station.

Historical Society

Rockdale Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. each second Tuesday at the I&GN Railroad depot museum downtown. All persons with an interest in local history are invited.

Milam County MOPS

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets at 9:30 a.m. each second Wednesday at First Baptist Church for breakfast, fellowship, speakers and crafts. Childcare is provided. MOPS is open to any mom with children age birth-kindergarten. FMI call Michelle Barcak, 446-6948, or visit www.mops.org.

Downtown Association

Alzheimer's support

VistaCare volunteers

VistaCare Hospice volunteers meet at 11:30 a.m. each third Thursday at Murray Street Church of Christ.
