Milano scholarships total $78,800

MILANO-Milano High School graduates were awarded over $78,800 in scholarships and awards at commencement ceremonies held at Pruitt Field on Friday night.

The 39-member Class of 2009 heard speeches from valedictorian Shawn Pustejovsky and salutatorian Taylor Whitmire and were presented their diplomas by board trustee president Kevin Love.

Some members of the class were g iven t heir diplomas f rom family members who currently serve on the school board, including Kim Lenz to son Dustin Herring and newly elected Alden Crowe to daughter Kayleigh.

Scholarships awarded on Friday night were:

Texas A&M University Academic — Shawn Pustejovsky ($29,064).

Texas A&M Corpus Christi Island Scholar- Taylor Whitmire ($10,000).

Howard Payne University Academic- Katie Walker ($7,500).

Texas 4 -H Foundation Technical Scholarship—Kristian Lee ($5,000 minimum).

Southern Utah University Academic- Tanner Gage (ranging from $4,000 to $16,000).

Blinn College Exemplary Student— Tennyson Guthrie ($2,000).

Academy of Freedom Fund- Katie Walker ($2,000).

Becky Dent Memorial—Jordan Bullock ($1,000)

Milano Masonic Lodge—Kristian Lee, Jordan Bullock, Ashlie Marsh ($1,000 each).

Kornegay Family Scholarship—Jordan Bullock ($1,000).

Milano Evening Lions Club —Kristian Lee, Tennyson Guthrie ($1,000 each).

Milano Alumni Association/Charlie Martin Memorial—Ashlie Marsh, Mindi Baron ($1,000 each).

Rockdale Fair Association—Mark Russell ($1,000).

Swenson Family Scholarship- Tennyson Guthrie ($1,000).

Career Colleges & Schools- Dakota Wilson ($1,000).

Jack Gambrell Memorial—Dakota Wilson ($500).

Milano First Baptist Church—Katie Karl ($500).

Geneva Paceley Memorial—Mindi Baron, Jordan Bullock ($500 each).

National Honor Society—Shawn Pustejovsky, Jordan Bullock, Tanner Gage, Tennyson Guthrie ($500 each).

Athletic Booster Club—Mark Russell, Devon Young, Chloe Endsley Tennyson Guthrie ($500 each).

United Steelworkers Union Local Chapter 1822- Ashley Carroll ($500).

Milam Community Theater- Taylor Whitmire ($500).

Eastern Star - Tennyson Guthrie ($500).

Aggie Mothers Club- Shawn Pustejovskey ($250).

Gause Community Improvement Program—Cody Cunningham, Kristian Lee ($200 each).

One-Act Play—Mindy Baron, Taylor Whitmire ($100 each).

Student Council—Katie Walker, Chris Adrian, Jordan Bullock, Shawn Pustejovsky ($100 each).

Farm Bureau Future Farmers of America Outstanding Senior Award- Mark Russell ($100).
