The temperature continues to climb in the Rockdale area and so does the frequency of fire calls for area volunteers.

Six calls were dispatched from the Rockdale Police Department over the past week, most of them to grass fires or controlled burns.

Calls were listed as follows:

• 2:27 a.m. June 2, vehicle fire, CR 264 at FM 483, Gause and Hearne VFDs.

• 12:19 p.m. June 3, controlled burn out of hand, US 77, one mile south of US 77-US 79 overpass, Rockdale VFD.

• 7:20 p.m. June 3, smoke smell, 305 North Sixth in Thorndale, Thorndale VFD.

• 2:22 p.m., June 3, grass fire, 1645 CR 335, Rockdale VFD.

• 5:15 p.m. June 3, controlled burn out of hand, Oak Park Five, Rockdale VFD.

• 1:33 p.m. Monday, grass fire, one-fourth mile west of Gause, Gause VFD. Fire rekindled at 3:18 p.m. and 4:32 p.m. and Gause VFD responded again.
