Milam County crops tour, with demonstration plots, set June 23

Mark your calendar for June 23 as the date of the Milam County Crops Tour.

This annual tour will showcase Milam County's Hybrid Variety Result Demonstration plots. The tour will also include programs of emerging technologies and presentations by Texas AgriLife Extension Specialists as well as members of the allied agriculture industry.

A noon meal will be held, free of charge, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Crops Tour donors.

Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. at the Milam County Courthouse in Cameron.

The tour will begin at approximately 8. The tour will be comprised of visits to various producer fields.

Travel will be by your personal vehicle, however, carpooling is recommended. The tour will involve some walking and will be outdoors, so dress appropriately. The tour will conclude at the Buckholts Community Center.

Stiles Farm Day

The Stiles Farm Foundation Field Day will be held Tuesday, June 16.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event allows farmers, ranchers, and representatives within the agricultural industry to meet and share both ideas and best practices.

The first Stiles Farm Foundation Field Day was in 1963, and it has been an annual event ever since, with the exception of 1996, when it was cancelled due to drought.

Stiles Farm is located just east of Taylor, at the corner of US 79 and FM 1063 in Thrall.

The foundation was established in 1961, and the farm serves as experimental grounds to tr y out new crops and new farming methods.

There are also livestock and catfish farming operations on the farm's approximately 2,800 acres.

The Stiles Farm Foundation is overseen by the Texas A&M Board of Directors and is managed by the Texas AgriLife Extension and the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station.
