BBQ cookoff ahead

THORNDALE—The 19th annual Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue Cookoff is set for June 26-28 with activities including a softball tourney, dances and, of course, lots of cooking.

Cookoff categories include beef brisket, pork ribs and chicken halves. There will also be a jackpot bean division and Cook's Choice & Eye Opener Bloody Mary competition.

Dances will be 8 p.m. to 12- midnight June 26 with the People's Choice and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. June 27 featuring Lange Debault and The Live Band.

Dances will be at the city park pavilion. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-11 with all children 12 and under to be accompanied by an adult.

Schedule of events at Thorndale City Park:

June 26-28 All day-Softball tourney.

June 26 8 p.m. to 12-midnight— Dance, People's Choice.

June 27

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Arts and crafts, food booths.

10 to 11 a.m.—42 Tourney registration, followed by tourney at 11.

11 a.m.—Firemen's Auxiliary turkey and dressing dinner begins.

11:30 a.m. to 12-noon— Junior washer (ages 8 to 14) pitching registration, followed by tourney at 12:15.

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.— Horseshoe registration followed by tourney at 1 p.m.

11:30 a.m.—Opening ceremonies with Miss Thorndale and her court.

4 p.m.—A nnouncement of cookoff winners.
