Thorndale jamboree coming up Monday

THORNDALE—Thorndale VFW and Auxiliary will again sponsor its monthly Country & Gospel Music Jamboree on Monday, June 22. The VFW Hall opens at 5:30 p.m. for food. The kitchen will have chicken salad sandwiches, sausage wraps, chips and drinks available.

Music begins at 7 p.m. This month will feature our house band members. "Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the music, food and fellowship," said Marjorie Menzel, publicist.

Chicken fried steak meals set June 27

THORNDALE—On Saturday, June 27, the Thorndale VFW Auxiliary will sponsor a chicken fried steak dinner during the annual Thorndale BBQ Cookoff.

Serving will begin at 11 a.m. until plates are sold out. The meal will consist of chicken fried steak, new potatoes, seasoned green beans, gravy, bread and iced tea. Plates will be $8 each and desserts will be available for a donation.

The Auxiliary will also have a silent auction during the dinner. "Come enjoy the food and the air-conditioned VFW hall," said Marjorie Menzel, publicist.

Sunshine quilters to meet June 25

Sunshine 'n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25 in the fellowship hall of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

Program will be "ladies choice," with members helping each other with unfinished projects, according to Eddie Davidson, spokesperson. For more information call 446-6316.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Lifesavers reschedule 2nd softball tourney

Team Lifesavers, the Relay For Life team from Little River Healthcare System, will host its 2nd annual co-ed softball tournament on Saturday, July 18, ac cord ing to K im Jeter, publicist.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. at the Rockdale Girls Softball fields. The original date of April 18 was rained out.

Rockdale Rotary Club

Rockdale Rotary Club meets at noon each Tuesday at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park. Noon Lions Club

Rockdale Noon Lions Club meets each first and third Wednesday at the Rockdale VFD fire station.

Historical Society

Rockdale Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. each second Tuesday at the I&GN Railroad depot museum downtown. All persons with an interest in local history are invited.

Milam County MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is enrolling members for the 2009- 2010 year. MOPS is open to any mother with children ages bir thkindergarten. Fees $25. Meetings will begin in September at First Baptist Church in Rockdale at 9:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month. Breakfast, guest speakers, crafts, fellowship. Childcare provided for 5 and under. Alzheimer's support

Alzheimer's Family Support Group meets in the conference room at Renaissance Villa each first Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m.

VistaCare volunteers

VistaCare Hospice volunteers meet at 11:30 a.m. each third Thursday at Murray Street Church of Christ.
