New members join, old favorite changing hands

So far June has been a busy month. We would like to welcome several new members to the Chamber.

Jody Logsdon with Cookie Lee Jewelry is available for your affordable jewelry needs. Call Jody at 446-0644 to set up a time to see her line. She is available for parties or private showing for a beautiful jewelry line.

Another new member is Rockdale Audio and Video with owner Tim Ramey, located at 223 Ackerman.

They have electronics and accessories and they can make DVD's out of your VCR casettes.

Go by and visit them, across from the Post Office or call at 446-4275.

Ownership change

Poor Boy Barbecue, with Tom and Lois Fisher owners, has been in business for 15 years.

The meal they prepared for Rockdale Homecoming Sunday was the last catered meal they will serve.

They have been wonderful assets to the town and, as a matter of fact, received the Business of the Year award in 2007 from the Chamber.

We will miss them as business owners in Rockdale but I know they will not sit back and will stay involved in different ways.

The business has been sold and so thankfully Rockdale will still have a barbecue place in town, because, of course, small town Texas can not be without a barbecue restaurant.

But Tom and Lois have been such good neighbors and they will be missed.

The extra mile

This weekend husband and I went out of town. We stopped for gas and a man was there at the station needing some help.

He was so put out because he had asked a policeman for help and his answer was "can't help, don't know what to tell you."

I know that in Rockdale I have heard many times over how our police have gone above and beyond to help those people passing through town who have car trouble or whatever else.

It reminds me all over again why I live in Rockdale and not in Fort Worth because we have caring people who go the extra mile to help.

So, while I am thinking of it I would like to thank our local police department for the good work they do, not only with the bad guys but the people who need help too.

It makes all the difference.

Until next time I leave you with this: If you only look at what is, you might never attain what could be.
