A 45-year-old Rockdale woman underwent surgery at Scott & White hospital, and was placed in intensive care Monday, after she was injured in a 1:26 p.m. Sunday accident on FM 487.

State Trooper Ernest DelBosque said Sonia Yoakum was the driver of a car which left the roadway on a curve 3.2 miles northwest of Rockdale, struck several trees, came to rest in a field, caused a brush fire and was totaled in the flames.

DelBosque said passenger Teresa Jones, 51, of Rockdale, was not injured. He said both women were out of the vehicle before the fire.

"Given the extent of Mrs. Yoakum's injuries I'd suspect she did not have her seat belt on," Del- Bosque said. "Mrs. Jones did and she was basically unscathed."
