BIBLE SCHOOL ATTRACTION—This train ride will be one of the activities at Vacation Bible School to be held Monday through Friday, June 22-26, at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 665 North Main Street in Rockdale, according to Marilu Gonzalez, spokesperson. Community prayer for rain set June 28

A commuity-wide prayer for rain has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28 at Veterans Memorial Park in Rockdale, according to Faw n Simpson, spokesperson.

"People of all faiths and denominations are invited to join in this prayer for rain," she said.

Mt. Zion Baptist VBS coming up next week

Mt. Zion Baptist Church, FM 1712 north of Rockdale, will hold Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday, June 22-26, from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m.

Classes w ill be for ages 4 through Youth. Theme is "Truth Trek!—Finding the Wonderful Treasures in God's Word."

Akers to lead youth at St. John's UMC

St. John's United Methodist Church has welcomed back Scott Akers to the church staff, according to Rev. John Warren, pastor.

"Scott will lead the Intermissions Coffeehouse Contemporary Service on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. and he will also lead the Youth Group on Wednesdays at 6 p.m.," Rev. Warren said.

Akers was formerly a Rockdale Junior-High School teacher. He and wife Ingrid have four children, Maddy, Molly, Samuel and three-month-old Joseph.

Barbecue, desserts cookoff to aid church

Rising Star Baptist Church has scheduled a barbecue and desserts cookoff to benefit its building fund.

The cookoff will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 on the church grounds, 1022 Texas Street in Rockdale.

Desserts—Entry fee is $5 per category for cakes, pies and cobblers. Turn-in time is noon.

Barbecue—Entry fee is $20 per category for chicken, ribs, brisket and beans. Turn-in times are: beans 1 p.m., chicken 2 p.m., ribs 3 p.m., brisket 4 p.m.

Entry fees must be paid before 9 a.m. on cookoff day. Alcohol is prohibited.

Murray St. to host VBS next week

"Crocodile Dock" will be the theme for Vacation Bible School to be held from 9 until 11:30 a.m. June 22-24 at Murray Street Church of Chr ist, hosted by Murray Street and Pecan Street Churches of Christ.

Pre-registration can be done daily between now until June 21, according to Ray Don McIntosh, minister at Murray Street.

Pleasant Retreat VBS planned next week

THORNDALE—Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday, June 22-26. Theme is "Crocodile Dock—Where Fearless Kids Shine God's Light."

Monthly men's breakfast to meet at Meadowbrook

An ecumenical Christian men's fellowship breakfast is held each second Tuesday, 7 to 8 a.m., the site rotating between several churches.

All men of the Rockdale area are welcome and the purpose is to bring men of the community together for Christian fellowship.

Next meeting will be July 14 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall.

'Men and Marriage' workshop Thursday

Allen AME Church, 216 East Third Street, will host a workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18.

Topic will be "Men and Marriage," according to Pastor George Morgan who said the public is invited.
