Milam gets first case of swine flu

Milam County recorded its first case of H1N1 (swine flu) last week but the impact wasn't quite what it would have been six weeks ago.

Michelle Ferguson, Milam County Public Health preparedness coordinator, said the person who contracted swine flu was treated at Scott & White Hospital, Temple, and is in good condition.

While H1N1 has been declared a "pandemic" by the World Health Organization, a Swiss pharmaceutical company announced last week it would have the first vaccine against the strain ready for testing by October.

The year's first century mark, 102 degrees, was recorded on Friday at the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXT-FM.

Saturday's high was also 102. It "cooled off" to 101 Sunday but was back to 103 Monday and Tuesday.
