The official summer of 2009 is only a week old and already this June's heat wave is being mentioned in the same gasping breath as Rockdale's hottest years ever. Federal child porn case nets 10-years in jail
SAN ANTONIO—A 44-yearold Rockdale man received 10-year federal prison sentence for possession of child pornography last week. Earlier this spring, Frank Sanchez Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of the offense. U. S. Full Story
RISD: No change in tax rate, slight decrease in budget
It sounds like a science fiction movie title: "The Incredible Shrinking Deficit." Rockdale ISD trustees unanimously adopted a 2009-10 budget Monday evening reflecting a $371,294 deficit. That's down more than half from the $801,290 deficit projected in a budget workshop just two weeks ago and about one-fifth the $1. Full Story

Last week I attended a meeting where Dr. Ray Perryman and some other economists spoke. They all had some great insight of what is going on in the world today. May jobless rate back to 10.1%
Local rate ticks up as Luminant project finishes
As expected, Milam County's jobless rate rose slightly as work nears completion at Luminant's Sandow 5 power plant. Milam's rate for May was 10.1 percent, up from 9.7 in March, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reported. The county's rate was based on a labor force of 12,537 with 11,272 working and 1,265 unemployed. Full Story
