Record books due Tuesday to Extension Office

County Record books are due June 30 at the Extension Office in Cameron. They will be judged at the Council & Leaders meetings that evening. The books can be dropped off at the Extension office before 5 p.m. or they can be brought with you to the Council meeting.

A 4-H Beginners Fun Day was held on June 13 at the Gause ISD gym. Eleven 4-H Beginners (ages 5- 8) participated in sessions on foods, gardening, recreation and crafts for the group. Record book judging begins at 6:30 p.m. at Bea's Kitchen in Cameron. To all 4-H leaders and senior 4-H members, help is needed to judge the record books. This is a great way to learn about the record book project and get great ideas.

Milam County 4-H Awards

It's that time of year again, Awards Applications are available at the Extension office or on our website. Award applications are due when you turn in your 4-H record book on June 30 for the Gold Star, "I Dare You", Silver Star Awards, and Bronze Star Awards. 4-H'ers submitting these award applications will need to participate in the interview process. This year the award interviews will be held in August.

County 4-H Recognition Award applications (Beginner, Rookie, Honor Roll, 4-H All Star, 4-H Letterman) can be submitted with the record book or any time prior to Oct. 1. These 4-H'ers will be recognized at the annual award banquet in November.

Three Project Days in July

Junior 4-H Fun Day is set for 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Thursday, July 2 at the Gause ISD Gym. This will be a great activity for 4-H'ers from 5 13 years of age. We will explore 4-H projects, games, and have lots of fun. You will also learn to make and fly a kite.

Teen leaders are encouraged to sign-up to help with the Fun Day activities. Along with a variety of activities, the 4-H Council will be providing lunch for the participants. RSVP by Monday, June 29.

4-H Project Day for Clothing & Foods and Nutrition is set for 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Thursday, July 16 \at the First Presbyterian Church, Cameron. All 4-H'ers are invited to attend. We will explore the 4-H Food & Nutrition Project with fun activities and things to eat. For the Clothing section, we will be constructing an easy scarf made out of fleece. A fee of $5 per 4-H'er will be collected for the fleece to construct your scarf. Lunch will be provided. We will also need older 4-H'ers to help and be teen leaders. RSVP by Monday, July 13.

4-H Project Day for Ecology & Environment is set for 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Thursday, July 30 the Thorndale, Fireman's Hall. All 4-H'ers are invited. We will explore the Ecolog y and the Environment through fun projects and activities and of course games. Lunch will be provided. We will also need older 4-H'ers to help and be teen leaders. RSVP by Monday, July 27.

Summer community service opportunity

Step out of the box and try something new for community service this summer. The Cameron Food Bank needs help, you could help by going to Austin with the pastors as they load groceries or meet them in Cameron to unload groceries.

Another opportunity would be to help sort groceries or hand out groceries. The food bank needs help on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month. Contact the Extension Office for additional information.

MCJLS & major show turkey orders

Deadline to order turkeys for major shows (Houston Livestock Show, San Antonio Livestock Show and Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo) and Milam County Livestock Show is Wednesday, July 8. Poults are $3.50 each. Please order your birds at the Extension Office by July 8. Make checks out to Extension Lab Account.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
