Some fixin' up going on with local businesses

Have you noticed some new improvements being made around town?

Of course, McVoy's is being painted and looking good.

Betty Jensen is working on the corner building downtown that will soon be Shrimps, a restaurant serving seafood, sandwiches and great lunches.

The old Rogers' Cleaners has been renovated by Triad Surveying, Inc. and Germania Insurance with Dian and Dale Jaecks.

It is so heartwarming to see new things happening and knowing that people are still placing their confidence in Rockdale. We are all in this together.

Prayer for rain

On Sunday the Milam County Cowboy Church held a community prayer service to pray for rain. It was a good service and good attendance. Becky Marek was our Emcee and Rising Star Baptist Church sang. Other ministers were a part of the ceremony and though it only lasted for 30 minutes it was very meaningful.

Turning our sights toward God is always a good thing and when we can do it as a community it means even more. I know there were many people who couldn't be there but if we all pray together it doesn't matter if we are all geographically together as long as our prayers are in sync.

Keep on praying and God will provide.

College girl

Our baby girl is doing very well at Texas State University. All of the trauma that I went through when it was time to let her leave the nest has passed and I know that we did the best we could do with her, now it is up to her.

And to add to the mix she has met a wonderful young man who compliments her personality. Seeing our children grow up is such a bittersweet occurrence because we don't want them to stay home forever but we miss them when they are gone.

So, to Phillip, I feel blessed that he is in her life. And to Sharon, we share a common interest, our children—and I look forward to when we get to meet.

Until next time I leave you with this: We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much and pray too seldom.
