Food pantry seeks 'blessings'

For a number of months, I have been prov iding food and nutrition information to the persons getting food at the Blessings from God Food Pantry.

On July 7, the Milam County Health Depar tment w ill be providing free blood pressure checks from 5-6 p.m. at the food pantry. If you are coming to the food pantry on July 7, make sure you get there in time to get the free blood pressure check.

The Blessings from God Food Pantry is located across the street from the Cameron Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 1204 N. Austin in Cameron.

Pastor Earnest Taylor Sr. of the Cameron Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Pastor Basilio Montez, Jr. of the Iglesia Bautista Tierra Santa coordinate the food pantry twice a month: 1st Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and third Tuesday at 8 a.m. If you are in need of help, come to one of the Tuesday food distributions.

Volunteers are always needed at the Blessings from God Food Pantry. Pastor Taylor and Pastor Montez need helpers on the Mondays prior to the food pantry distributions and on the day of the distributions. Find your volunteer spirit and contact Pastor Taylor at 979-204-4132 or Pastor Montez at 254-697-2532 to sign up to help. Your help will make a difference.

In May 1,024 persons received assistance from the food pantry. The numbers rose to 1,500 in June. The current group of volunteers is having a hard time keeping up with the need. Volunteers are needed to help load and unload groceries, sack groceries for distributions and loading groceries for participants.

Also, clothing items are collected and distributed to persons in need at the Blessings from God Food Pantry. If you have clothing items to donate, contact Will Turner at 254- 482-5254.

Any help is appreciated by the Blessings from God Food Pantry and the persons it serves. or 7047. Let's give a helping hand to the ones in need in our community.
