Tigers 7-on-7 squad in state tournament

Rockdale replaces dropped out China Spring

Joe Sanders has lined up at both quarterback and receiver so far. Joe Sanders has lined up at both quarterback and receiver so far. Because of a late start in the proceedings, the Rockdale 7-on-7 team needed a helping hand to squeeze into the state tournament and got one from an old foe.

When China Spring dropped out of the tournament, Rockdale stepped in for its third straight appearance and fourth overall in the 12th annual event.

Because of a successful baseball season, the Tigers got a late start in participating in the qualifying tournaments, playing in just three.

The Tigers went 2-1 in all three tournaments, which was not good enough to qualify for the state tournament.

In two of the tournaments, the Rockdale team tied for first, but lost out on points.

The Lex- ington 7-on-7 league they play in was also cancelled because of the swine flu scare so the Tigers were unable to put in any time on the field to prepare for the tournaments.

Last year, Rockdale was bounced out of the tournament by Brownwood and was also beaten by the eventual champion Crane, which was in the Tigers pool.

Crane did not make it back to the tournament this year, however 2007 champion Celina did.

Cameron is the only team that has qualified that is on the Tigers' 2009 regular season schedule.
