Records continue to fall in prolonged heat wave, drought of 2009
Another month of this and Rockdale may not have any heat records remaining to be broken. Two more readings of 107 were recorded during the past week on the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXTFM. That means, through Tuesday, Rockdale has logged no less than 14 highs of 105 or greater. Full Story
Barricade in hotel ends with one arrest
A 34-year-old Rockdale man, wanted on multiple warrants, was arrested by 10 officers from four law enforcement agencies just after midnight Sunday in a Cameron motel room. Lt. Full Story
10 Alcoans called back for cleanup
Ten laid off employees of Alcoa's Rockdale Operations have been temporarily called back to work to clean out metal left in potlines when the smelter shut down last year. Jim Hodson, Alcoa spokesman, said the 10 employees "have a few more weeks" of employment and will go back on layoff status once the maintenance task is complete. Full Story

Council proceeds with development district
Mayor may ask hospital district to give up sales tax
Rockdale City Council on Monday began the process to form the Municipal Development District, a voter initiative that narrowly passed in May. Council members directed new City Manager Kelvin Knauf to begin work with an attorney to draw up the necessary paper work. Council members will mull board member selections over the next few weeks. Miller didn't look too far for new trainer
Granted it was a daunting task for RISD Athletic Director Jeff Miller in searching for a replacement for popular trainer Henry Hawkins, but he reached out to a neighbor and tabbed Caldwell native Dustin Cedidla. Cedidla (pronounced SAIDU LA) is a 2000 graduate of Caldwell High School and graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Full Story

Brownwood bounces Blue for second straight year
COLLEGE STATION—Rockdale couldn't find any relief from the schedule makers or the temperature maker. Playing in 106 degree temperatures, the Tigers were eliminated for the second straight year by a powerful Brownwood team 47-26 in the Division II (1A-3A) first championship round of 16 Saturday morning at the 12th annual 7-on-7 state championship.
