Luminant's 581-megawatt Sandow 5 won't be on-line with the state's electrical grid by its long-time goal of Aug. 31. On Monday the power generating company filed a document before the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), stating it is seeking a 59-day extension of the Aug. 31 deadline. Full Story
5 indicted for rural vandalism
Five Rockdale residents, charged with 25 acts of vandalism in South Milam County during two nights in March, were indicted Thursday by a Milam County grand jury. Charged with two counts of felony criminal mischief ($1,500 to $20,000) were 19-year-old Allen Bayer and Jay Tanner Grayson and Francisco Diaz, both 20. Full Story

Buyer still sought for Alcoa water
Company in talks with Brazos River Authority and other entities
Four years after a contract to sell underground water to the city of San Antonio fell through, Alcoa is still seeking a market to sell some of its underground water. Jim Hodson, Alcoa spokesman, said the aluminum company has been negotiating with the Brazos River Authority (BRA) and other entities for several years. Full Story

Fisher family men have responded to fire calls for 60 years
When he was seven, Travis Fisher went to the Brookshire Bros. fire with his father Wayne, a member of the Rockdale VFD. Travis, 18, has now become the Rockdale VFD's newest full member. When Wayne Fisher was seven, he went to the Singer's Grill fire in downtown Rockdale with his father Tom, a member of the Rockdale VFD. Full Story
Milam logs 2 more cases of swine flu
Milam County recorded its fourth and fifth cases of the H1N1 flu virus on Thursday, commonly known as the "swine flu." "Both patients have been treated and are doing well," Michelle Ferguson, public health preparedness coordinator for the Milam County Health Department, said. Full Story
100-degree string grows to 14 Tuesday
Tuesday was the 14th consecutive day of 100- degree-plus readings in Rockdale, according to the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXT-FM. That's not even the longest 100-plus string this summer. There was a string of 18 consecutive 100s between June 12 and 29. Full Story
