Practices for high school teams start Monday

Summer vacation comes to an abrupt end early Monday morning as football and volleyball workouts begin for area teams as well as teams around the Lone Star State.

Football equipment will be issued at the field house on Monday beginning at 7 a.m. sharp for the Rockdale Tigers.  That will be followed by the first day of practice which is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.  Beginning the next day, Tuesday, Aug. 4, practice will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. until noon.  The practice of Aug. 7 will mark the Tigers' first practice in full pads.

Volleyball practice is set to start on Aug. 3 as well.  All participants must bring their own t-shirt and shorts for the first few weeks.  Workouts will be held in the new RHS gym from 7 to 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. This schedule will continue through Aug. 7.  New Coach Jason Williams encourages everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.  A high school volleyball parents meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.

If you are going to participate in Rockdale High School football, volleyball or cross-country this coming school year in grades 9-12, you must have all the required UIL and RISD medical forms turned in.  Students going into grades 9 and 11 must have a new physical examination and the four page "yellow form" packet.  Students going into the 10th and 12th grades only need to complete the "yellow form" packet if they already have a physical exam on-file from last year.
