Alarm rings early for teams Monday
Equipment will be issued at the field house on Monday beginning at 7 a.m. sharp for the Rockdale Tigers.
That will be followed by the first day of practice which is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.
Beginning the next day, Tuesday, Aug. 4, practice will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. until noon.
The practice of Aug. 7 will mark the Tigers' first practice in full pads.
While the opening day of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 28, when the Tigers will travel to Llano for the 7:30 kickoff, Rockdale has a couple of scrimmages set up before then.
The Tigers will travel to Giddings on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m. for their first scrimmage and then will host Robinson on Thursday, Aug. 20 for a 7 p.m. scrimmage.
The annual "Meet the Tigers" social and cake auction will take place Monday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. in the junior high gym.
Volleyball practice is set to start on Aug. 3 as well.
All participants must bring their own t-shirt and shorts for the first few weeks.
Workouts will be held in the new RHS gym from 7 to 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. This schedule will continue through Aug. 7.
New Coach Jason Williams encourages everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.
A high school volleyball parents meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.
The Lady Tigers will scrimmage on Aug. 8 and then open the season by traveling to Lexington on Tuesday, Aug. 11 for a 5 p.m. match.
If you are going to participate in Rockdale High School football, volleyball or cross-country this coming school year in grades 9-12, you must have all the required UIL and RISD medical forms turned in.
Students going into grades 9 and 11 must have a new physical examination and the four page "yellow form" packet.
Students going into the 10th and 12th grades only need to complete the "yellow form" packet if they already have a physical exam on-file from last year.
These medical forms may be picked up from the RISD Athletic office on Murray at Tiger Stadium. Football and volleyball practices begin on the morning of Monday, Aug. 3.
Junior high football and volleyball athletes also need their medical forms turned-in. New 7th grade athletes will need both the physical exam and the "yellow form" packet, while returning 8th grade athletes only need the "yellow form" packet.
RHS athletes other than football, volleyball or cross country need their medical forms turned in the first week of school.
Rockdale Junior High football and volleyball players can begin picking up their equipment on Aug. 21 with practices to begin on Aug. 25.
Football equipment will be issued on Friday, Aug. 21 from 8–9:30 a.m. for eighth graders, while the seventh graders can receive their equipment from 10–11:30 a.m.
Junior high players may purchase their own football cleats, but they must be black (some white trim is acceptable).
Practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 a.m. for seventh graders and at 2:50 p.m. for eighth graders.
Volleyball equipment will also be handed out on Friday, Aug. 21 for the eighth graders from 8–9 a.m. and the seventh graders from 9–10 a.m.
Practices begin on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Seventh graders will practice at 6:45 a.m. and eighth graders at 3:40 p.m.
All athletes must have physicals and other paper work turned in and on file to participate and get their equipment.
Advanced reserved seat football tickets for previous season ticket holders will be sold at the athletic office on Aug. 10-13 and Aug. 17- 20 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Beginning Monday Aug. 24, anyone else wanting to purchase reserve seat season tickets may do so in the athletic office from 8 a.m. to noon.
The cost of season tickets will be $30 for five home games.
According to head coach Jeff Miller, picture day/press day for RHS football and athletic trainers has been set for Saturday, Aug. 8 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Tiger Field.
Both Milano and Thorndale will have new gridiron coaches when practices start on Monday.
The Eagles leader on the sideline will be a familiar face in former assistant Craig Jentsch. This is his first head coaching job. He replaces Tim Berg who was at Milano for just one season.
Milano football players should report early Monday morning. Players should be on the field at 7 a.m. Workouts should be over around noon with an hour break during practice time.
Thorndale's new head coach Kade Burns replaces Todd Doughty who is now at Meridian. Doughty's new staff includes Berg.
Burns and his staff will issue equipment at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3 at the Thorndale field house. Workouts will be from 8:45-10:30 a.m. and then from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Bulldogs will begin morning workouts around 7 a.m. the rest of the week with an hour break before finishing things up around the noon hour.
Veteran coaches Wendy King and Julie Downs will lead their respective volleyball programs this season, coming off post season appearances last year.
King's Milano squad will begin practices for high school students at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3. First session will end around 11 a.m. and evening practice is set for 5- 7 p.m.
Athletes are reminded they must have physical papers turned in before they can begin practice.
Downs and the Lady Dogs will begin workouts at 8 a.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Freshmen players will return from 1- 2:30 p.m., while junior varsity and varsity players will work out from 3- 5:30 p.m.
