5Kay seeks sponsors, entries for fund-raiser

Directors of the Kay Theater Foundation's annual 5Kay Run, Walk and UnRun are seeking runners and sponsors for the Sept. 26 event, which begins in front of the Quonset hut-style theater.

Sponsorship deadline is Aug. 30. Runners may download an entry form at www.rockdalereporter. com.

Currently under renovation, the theater will be a community center for a variety of events.

Chamber mixer slated Aug. 13 at Comfort Inn

A Chamber of Commerce mixer will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Comfort Inn (formerly El Camino Real Inn) at 702 W. US 79, across from Walmart.

Owners Suresh and Nayna Patel will host the event and promise good food and fellowship in the recently renovated hotel.

MARC Center to offer paper shredding

Milam Association for Retarded Citizens now has Rockdale's only commercial cross-cut shredder.

The MARC Center will offer shredding to area businesses for 20 cents per pound.

"This is something new and it benefits business and our organization, plus we help keep our MARC Center clients employed," said Peggy Nadeau, center director.

Confidentiality is guaranteed. The center is located at 1705 Pecos Street. Call Nadeau at 446- 2190 to set up an appointment.

GOP sets 'Rally in the park' in Cameron

Congressman John Carter and State Rep. Dan Gattis will share the podium at an "Old Time Rally in the Park" at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the pavilion at Cameron City park.

"The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and enjoy music, free hot dogs, lemonade and ice cream," said Loretta Roberts, GOP party secretary. Other offi- cials will attend as well, Roberts said.

Carter will report on Congressional matters and Gattis will speak on the recent legislative session.

The event is sponsored by the Milam County Republican Party and Republican Women of Milam County. City to flush water lines Wednesday, August 12

City crews will flush water lines overnight Wednesday, Aug. 12, City Manager Kelvin Knauf said.

Both east side and west side lines will be flushed that night.

"Please run cold water taps the next morning until the streams are clear," he said.
