Close of summer brings family reunions to town

As summer draws to a close, reunions are gather ing before school bells ring. On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Myers Reunion was held at the Milano Civic Center with over 100 in attendance. Eddie Mae Myers says everyone had a great time visiting, talking about family and events that had taken place during the past year.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, the Holdiness Reunion was held at the Civic Center. Martha Holdiness Newman said they had a good group in attendance. I married into a family that has a big reunion every Fathers Day weekend. It's work, but lots of fun.

As I grew up in big town of Gause, I remember the Mor- ga n family a nd Cass family reunions. I would love to know if some of my cousins are still alive and where they live. As you get older, family becomes that much more important. I would live to show off my family to my distant relatives.

Please keep the Carol Wise family in your prayers. At the time of this writing, Carol is very ill.

Claude and I enjoyed an afternoon out on Sunday, as we went to Cameron to enjoy the Milam Community Theatre's presentation of "The Sound of Music" at the Cameron ISD Performing Arts Center. Milano was well represented with members of t he cast including Taylor Whitmire, Car ter Whitmire, Ashton Whitmire, Stonie Guthrie, Tennyson Guthrie and Iris Guthrie.

Milano school bells will ring on Monday, Aug. 24. Parents, please check your child's immunizations records. There have been some requirement changes and your child will not be able to star t school if t heir shot records are incomplete.

Milano High School students may pickup their class schedules in the high school office from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Milano sports teams are ready to star t their 2009-10 seasons. High school football and volleyball practices are underway. The Lady Eagles will travel to Lexington on Saturday, Aug. 8 for scrimmages and will open up their season at Geneva Paceley Gym on Tuesday, Aug. 11 by hosting Rosebud-Lott.

In football, the varsity Eagles will host Somerville in a scrimmage set to beg in at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
