Beginning band instrument drive Friday at Rockdale JH

It is that time of the year to obtain your child's beginning band instrument for the upcoming school year, according to RISD band directors Joe Ray and Lance Walker.

Representatives from Hillje Music Company will be at Rockdale Junior High Band Hall from 4- 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.

"You may come by anytime during those hours and make the necessary arrangements for your child's band instrument," Ray said.

Additional purchases

Students who will be playing a school instrument such as French horn or baritone will need to come and buy a mouthpiece for those instruments.

All students will need to purchase a book while getting the instruments. The books cost $7.95 plus tax.

In addition, all clarinet and saxophone players will need to purchase a box of reeds to get started with, Ray said. All brass players will also need to purchase valve oil for their instruments as well.

All students should purchase an instrument care kit to help take care of their instruments, according to Ray.

Contact Ray at the high school band hall, 512-430 - 6160, or Walker at the junior high band hall, 512-446-6164, for more information, or just show up at the junior high band hall that night, and one of the directors will help you.

Band boosters

Rockdale Band Boosters would like to invite you to join the Booster organization. The membership is $10 for the entire family and you can also join that evening while you get your child's band instrument, Ray said.
