'Meet the Eagles' social, cake auction set Aug. 19

The annual "Meet the Eagles" social and cake auction is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. Fall sports teams and cheerleaders will be introduced and a cake auction will be held on items made by senior athletes.

A "Meet the Teacher" event is also set at all three Milano ISD campuses from 5- 6 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The Milano Opry is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Milano High School cafeteria. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $4, with seniors citizens getting in for $3 and children 10 and under are free admission. Food and drinks will be sold by the Bailey Bank Building committee. Sherry Barnett passed along a bit of good news this week. She and husband Billy are going to be grandparents for the first time. Son Aaron and wife Tessa are expecting their first child in late February.

The first day of school for Milano students is Monday, Aug. 24. Parents, be sure to check the school supply list at your local retail stores and your child's immunization record. Make sure you child's shots are up to date.

A representative from Balfour will be at the high school at noon, Thursday, Aug. 27 to talk with juniors about class rings.

Milano high school varsity volleyball team will play in the Cameron tournament on Thursday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 15. On Friday, Aug. 14 the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams will host Anderson-Shiro with games to begin at 3 p.m. Milano teams will travel to Little River- Academy on Tuesday, Aug. 18 for games to begin at 5 p.m.

The Milano Eagles football team will scrimmage Somerville at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 here in Milano. They will also scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 in Chilton.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
