Deadline approaching to become a Preserve America Community

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sept. 1 is the approaching deadline to submit an application to become a Preserve America Community. This prestigious designation recognizes communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use historic assets for economic development and dow ntow n revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs.

Several benefits of becoming a Preserve America Community include White House recognition, eligibility for Preserve America grants and enhanced community visibility and pride.

Four application and designation cycles occur each year. The next 2009 application deadline is Dec. 1.

Preserve America encourages and supports local efforts to preserve and enjoy the nation's cultural and natural heritage.
