RES sets Aug. 20 'Meet the Teacher'

Robin Faulk ner, Rockdale Elementary School principal, announced the campus' "Meet the Teacher" night will be held 5:30- 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

Students grades Pre-K through second grade are welcome to bring school supplies at that time, Faulkner said.

Packets available for new RHS students

New students to Rockdale High School are encouraged to pick up new student packets at the new RHS office from 8 a.m.- noon and 1- 4 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21, according to principal Chad Jones.

Students should bring the following items when picking up their packet for registration: birth certificate, social security card, shot records, most recent report card, TAKS scores and proof of residency.

Thorndale ISD to hold open house Aug. 20

A Thorndale ISD Open House/ Meet the Teacher Night is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, according to Hank Laywell, THS principal.

All three Thorndale campuses will participate for the entire time instead of staggering the times between campuses as has been the practice in the past, Laywell said.

GISD open house, soccer sign up Aug. 20

Gause ISD's "Meet the Teacher Night" is set for 5- 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, according to superintendent Perry Bell.

"This is the perfect time for parents and kids to get to know their teachers for the coming school year," Bell said.

School begins Monday, Aug. 24 and buses will run that morning. Parents with children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to a short assembly beginning at 7:50 a.m. that day, Bell said.

Gause Parents Club (GPC) will be present at both "Meet the Teacher Night", and the first day of school for parents interested in joining. The membership fee is $5 for each family.

GPC also sponsors soccer for youth ages 4 to 11. Parents can sign children up at the Aug. 20 event. The cost is $40 for children ages 4-8.

For the older kids, information will be on hand for participation in the Bryan Soccer League.

Three additional sign-up opportunities will be held at the school, Bell said. Two sign up times will be available Aug. 24, from 8:15- 9:15 a.m. and 6- p.m. The third sign up time is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. The Gause Soccer League is open to students attending school in the Calvert, Gause, Hearne, Milano and Mumford ISDs, Bell said.

Milano Alumni to offer fall 2009 scholarships

The Milano Alumni scholarship committee is offering small scholarships for the fall 2009 semester, spokesperson Carolyn Hafley said.

"If you are a Milano graduate and have attended at least two semesters at a college or trade school, you are eligible," Hafley said. Deadline to apply is Sept. 4.

St. Paul PTF to host burger social Sunday

The PTF (Parents, Teachers, Friends) organization at St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale will hold an "end of summer" fellowship and hamburger social on Sunday, Aug. 23, according to Lori Fisher, spokesperson.

The event will begin in the east wing of the school after the church's 10:15 a.m. service. The day will include dominoes, volleyball and a hamburger meal provided by the PTF.

Fisher said that each family is asked to bring a dessert or chip and dip to the event.
