Help burned 4-H'ers

Recently, several El Paso 4-H members were burned while working a food booth at a 4- H fund-raiser. Three of those youth are now in the Burn ICU at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Those families will be facing a long treatment in the hospital with a large burden of expenses.

Texas 4-H is calling out to other Texas 4-H families to help support a member in need. The Texas 4-H Foundation has set up an account for people to make financial donations to assist these families with meals and lodging.

If you would like to support these young 4-H'ers and their families, please send contributions to Texas 4-H Foundation, P.O. Box 11020, College Station, TX 77842 (on the memo line state, "El Paso 4-H youths). You can also make a donation online at the Texas 4-H Foundation website. www.texas4hfoundation. org. Click on the donate button on the home page, this will then direct you to paypal, and specify donation on "El Paso Youth". Please keep these 4-H families in your thoughts.

Breeding sheep program The Texas 4-H/FFA Breeding Sheep Validation Program has been initiated for the 2010 show season. Major shows that will be using the Breeding Sheep Validation Program are the San Antonio, San Angelo, and Houston Livestock Shows. A new validation form has been developed to meet the specific needs of this program. The ownership deadline for breeding sheep will be changed from November 1st to October 1st. Existing breeder tag numbers and tattoos will be used. What we will need from you? The registration number for each animal will be recorded on the validation form and a copy of the original registration papers will be needed to send in to the state. Nose prints and hair samples will be taken on all breeding ewes and rams. All breeding sheep will be validated in individual exhibitor names, and not by families as conducted on the market validation programs. No partnerships will be allowed as well. At this time, there will be no costs for the breeding sheep program. Please inform the Extension Office if you plan on exhibiting a Breeding Sheep at the list shows above, by August 28, 2009.
