A 3-2 record is not exactly setting the world on fire, but for the Rockdale Lady Tigers, it beats where they've been.

The Lady Tigers jumped out early and then staved off McGregor 25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19 Tuesday night on the road.

The Lady Tigers' stand 3-2 on the young season, which surpasses last year's win total when they went 2-25. They were 3-32 two seasons ago.

Senior Crystal Callas continues to impress in the early going, racking up 12 assists, seven kills, two digs and two aces against McGregor.

Fellow seniors Brittany and Meagan Frei complemented Callas with seven kills, three digs, two blocks and six kills and three blocks respectively.

Katie Strelsky added seven assists while Hailey Offield came up with six digs and three aces.

Rockdale went 1-2 in the inaugural Copperas Cove Tournament over the weekend.

Copperas Cove (9-0) captured its own tourney by defeating Pf luger v ille Connally in the championship game.

"We started off great and competed with Copperas Cove really well," said first-year Coach Jason Williams. "In the third game against Alvarado, we made a few more mistakes than they did and they got us."

The Lady Tigers fell to the Class 5A Lady Dawgs twice, once in pool play 25-11, 25-11 and then 25-15, 25-10 to open bracket play.

In pool play, the Lady Tigers defeated McGregor 25-14, 25-20, lost to Austin Hyde Park 25-18, 25-16 and Alvarado 17-25, 25-21, 27-25.

Callas had four kills and four assists against Cove, five assists, three aces and two kills against McGregor and 14 assists, five digs, three aces and a block against Alvarado.

In bracket play, Rockda le opened with a victory over Johnson City 25-16, 25-13, before falling to Copperas Cove and Alvarado 17-25, 25-16, 25-20.

Callas had five assists, four kills and three aces against Johnson City, four kills and four assists against Copperas Cove and 10 assists, five kills, three digs and an ace against Alvarado.

After hosting Moody on Friday, the Lady Tigers will travel to Salado on Tuesday and then host their own tournament on Aug. 28-29.
