Cake auction cooks up athletic booster fund

Supporters turn up big in annual fundraiser

Reporter/ Bill Martin Another full house at the Rockdale Junior High gymnasium kept bidding at a frenzied pace Monday night as the Tiger booster club collected $4,795 for its athletic fund at the 9th annual "Meet The Tigers" cake auction.

In the past four years, the auction has raised almost $25,000 for athletics, including a record $9,532 at last year's event.

In nine years, the auction has raised over $37,000 for the athletic department.

Junior Tyler Wright's baked goods fetched the highest bid of the evening of $320, which was purchased by Bland Construction.

Joe Sanders' cake was bought by his grandfather Paul Heintze for $300.
