Annual Schneider Memorial roping moved to Hiney Ranch

THORNDALE—It is time again for the Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Fund Team Roping and Raff le, according to organizer Richard Schneider.

"This year we are adding a twist to our fund-raiser by adding a Jackpot BBQ Cookoff and we have moved it to the Joey & Phyllis Hiney Ranch in the Salty Community," Schneider said. This year the events will start on Friday, Sept. 25 and go through Sunday, Sept. 27.

Friday night will start by having a Margarita & Salsa Jackpot contest at 7 p.m. Around 9 p.m. there will be a Bikini barrel race, Schneider said. Saturday events start early in the morning with the BBQ Cookoff. The team roping will start around 10 a.m. and will continue all day. Around 2 p.m. there will be a Jackpot Horseshoe & Washer Pitching Tournament.

The BBQ Cookoff entry fee will be $75 for brisket, chicken and pork ribs and $25 for cooks choice. The Margarita & Salsa Jackpot entry fee will be $25 per entry. You may enter multiple times but all entries must be fresh and made on site, Schneider said.

The horseshoe and washer pitching jackpot fees w ill be $25 per team. There will be no trophies given in the above jackpots. Payback will be 60 percent of entry fee. Tickets may be purchased at area businesses in Thorndale and Rockdale. Bubba Grimm of Thorndale, the "PR" man down at Schroeder's Place, has sold more tickets than anyone else for the last 14 years. Bubba also averages 60 percent of all winning tickets. He is a super salesman and a great person to meet, Schneider said.
