Friendship Baptist to host Sunday taco dinner, movie

Friendship Baptist Church will hold a taco supper and movie viewing on its Fifth Sunday Family Day on Aug. 30. A taco dinner w ill be ser ved after the 11 a.m. morning worship. The movie "Fireproof" will be shown around 1:30 p.m. and child care will be provided.

The church is located about seven miles south of Milano on Highway 36 towards Caldwell. This is a fun time for families and fellowship.

Hope everyone's first day of school went well. By the end of the week things will be smooth as glass.

A belated happy birthday to my dear friend Eddie Mae Myers. May she have many more years to celebrate.

Congratulations to Samantha Smith and Robert Phillips Jr. on the birth of a daughter, Heather Lynn Phillips on Aug. 20 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. The baby weighed eight pounds and was 19.25 inches ling. Grandparents are Linda and Elvis Smith and Liddia and Robert Phillips Sr. of Milano. Great grandfather is Oliver Blakely of Milano and great-great grandparents are L.B. and Nelma Blake, also of Milano.

The Milano Alumni scholarship committee is offering small scholarships for the fall 2009 semester. If you are a Milano graduate and have attended at least two semesters at a college or trade school, you are eligible. Deadline to apply is Fr iday, Sept. 4. To get an application, contact Carolyn Hafley at 512- 455-2473.

The Alumni group has also set its annual homecoming meal and social for Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MHS cafetorium. A catered fajita meal will start at noon. There will also be a silent auction and plans are in the works for a live auction of items as well.

The Milano Lions Club meets every first and third Thursday of each month at the Milano Civic Center. The Lions help purchase glasses for children needing financial help and also give scholarships to graduating Milano seniors. Check w ith any of your local Lions for more information.

In volleyball action, the varsity team will participate in the Robinson tournament Thursday and Saturday. They will play in Snook on Friday. On Tuesday, Sept. 1 all three Lady Eagles team will travel to Holland for games starting at 5 p.m.

The Milano Eagles will open their 2009 football season with a non-district game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 in Waco against Texas Christian Academy.
