Enrollment down in area
First day enrollment was down slightly Monday in Milano and Thorndale while Gause ISD held steady.
In the Milano ISD, 410 students answered the opening bell, according to Supt. Lindy Robinson, compared to 439 on first day of 2008-09.
Monday's total represented 144 at the high school, 86 in the junior-high and 180 in the elementary, she said.
First day enrollment Monday at Thorndale was 550, down from 561 last year, according to Supt. Casey Callahan.
That breaks down to 208 in the high school, 114 in the middle school and 228 in the elementary.
"About 160" students reported for the first day in the Gause ISD, virtually identical to last year, according to Supt. Perry Bell.
