Being the first Rockdale team to compete in the new Tiger Gymnasium wasn't enough to inspire the Lady Tiger volleyball team.

Rockdale was sacked by Moody 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 Friday in the new gym's inauguration.

"The girls did some good things," said first-year Rockdale Coach Jason Williams. "A lot of the good things didn't really show up in the stats. Like moving to the right spots on defense and getting back to their base.

"These things aren't showy but they are important to the foundation of the defensive system."

The Lady Tigers fell against Salado Tuesday night on the road, 25-11, 25-11, 25-13 to slip to 3-4 on the season.

Senior Crystal Callas led the way with seven assists, four digs and two kills.

Brittany Frei followed with seven kills and a dig, while Haley Offield had two aces and one dig and Jill Young two kills and one dig.

Against Moody, Callas turned in another outstanding full court performance with 11 assists, eight digs, eight kills and five blocks.

"Crystal shows leadership on and off the court, Williams said. "I have high expectations for her to lead the team this year. Crystal does her best to make herself better as well as the team."

Brittany Frei complemented Callas with eight kills, seven digs and three blocks.

Katie Strelsky produced 11 assists, while Lyndee Pannell added five kills and Bailey Pannell and Young four digs each.

Rockdale will be hosting its ow n tournament Friday and Saturday which includes seven other teams.

Pool play begins at noon on Friday and then tournament play at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers open with Thrall at noon, then face Leander Vandergrift at 2 p.m. and then LBJ at 4 p.m.

In the Rockdale junior varsity/ freshman tournament, the Lady Tiger freshmen won consolation honors, while the junior varsity was fourth.
