The "Last Hug" is a story about a small child who watched as he said good-bye to his father, who is a member of the United Sates Armed Forces. As the small child stood alone on that dreary, rainy, and cold day, he wrapped his arms around himself as if trying to hold on to that "last hug" until his parent returned.
O perat ion Hug gable s wa s created to collect new and gently hugged teddy bears, dolls, or other stuffed animals of a "huggable size." The goal is to provide as many huggables to military children of all ages across the state. Instead of the empty arms around themselves on departure day, kids will be able to hug and hold their huggables before, during, and after deployment.
Local 4-Hers William Dean and Cooper Smith are co-chairing an Operation Huggables stuffed animal drive. If you have any stuffed animals, there will be a box located at the Extension office in Cameron. If you need someone to pick up the stuffed animals, call William Dean 512- 446-2845 or Cooper Smith 254- 697-4049.
Food bank donations
Step out of the box and try something new for community service. The Cameron and Rockdale food banks need your help. Every other month we will select a couple of items for you to donate. At the end of those months we will donate those items to the local food banks.
Another way to give back is by helping to unload and sort groceries at the Cameron food bank. The Cameron Food Bank needs help on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month.
Contact the Extension Office for additional information. The Aug./Sept. grocery list to donate includes one pound bags of rice and pinto beans and jars of peanut butter. Please turn these items in at your club meeting or drop of f at the Extension Office.
