Deadline for scholarships is Friday

A reminder that the Milano Alumni scholarship committee is offering small scholarships for the fall 2009 semester. If you are a Milano graduate and have attended at least two semesters at a college or trade school, you are eligible. Deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 4. To get an application, contact Carolyn Hafley at 512-455-2473.

Substitute training for Milano ISD is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 in the board room at the junior high. For more information, contact the MISD administration office at 512-455-2533.

Congratulations to the Milano Eagles football team on their win over Waco Texas Christian Academy Friday. They will travel to play DeLeon at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

Milano homecoming is set for Friday, Sept. 11. The Eagles football team will host Iola at 7:30 p.m. The homecoming court has been voted upon by MHS students. Homecoming queen candidates are seniors Chelsey Burgess, Christin Catalina, Maryssa Morgan and Madison Simpson. Class duchesses are junior Allison Dodd, sophomore Alicia Tibbitts and freshman Hayleigh LaGrone. The queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game.

The Alumni group has also set its annual homecoming meal and social for Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MHS cafetorium. A catered fajita meal by Ricky Mantey of Somerville will start at noon. There will also be a silent auction and plans are in the works for a live auction of items as well.

In volleyball action, the junior high teams have began their seasons. They will play in Mumford on Thursday, Sept. 10 and host Buckholts on Monday, Sept. 14.

The junior varsity team will play in the Franklin Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5. The high school teams will host Thorndale on Tuesday, Sept. 8 with games starting at 5 p.m.

The junior high football team will play its first game in Iola at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.
