Shopping locally isn't just for garage sales

What a great weekend we had in Rockdale. Our church had one of the many sales and there were people everywhere spending money and having fun. And the weather was perfect so I hope you all got out and about around Rockdale.

Activities like the community wide garage sales are big on the community word and it is good to get out and see people you don't see regularly.

I found that perfect find that I was so excited about along with other good bargains. One man's trash is another man's treasure and I found many of those treasures.

We want your input

In our September newsletter to the members we included a survey for suggestions and ideas for the chamber. We look forward to reading your thoughts so fill it out and fax it back to the Chamber.

Input from the members is so important to make the organization what everyone wants and needs it to be.

McVoy's, General Store

Our featured members this week are our feed stores in Rockdale.

McVoy's has been in business for over 50 years in Rockdale. Owner Matt Moore and Manager Terry Drummond encourage you to visit their location at 101 N. Main St. They have feed, fertilizer, farm supplies, pet supplies and bulk feed. A recent renovation makes an attractive addition to the downtown area. Visit McVoy's or call them at 446- 2381 for your farming and feed needs.

Another feed store is the

Rockdale General Store. They have a full line of feed, fertilizer, and farm supplies. They also have western wear and boots, pet supplies, outdoor furniture and a variety of outdoor buildings and lawnmowers. Their store makes a pleasant entry to Rockdale on the west side of town. If you haven't visited the General Store yet, you need to put it on your to-do list for affordable prices and items that will save you a trip to Austin. You can visit Travis and his crew at 1201 US 79 or call them at 446-6100.

Shop locally

Supporting our businesses is more important than ever before with the economic times the way they are.

I have heard many comments of why people don't shop in town. They range from: things are too expensive, they don't have what we need, I didn't know they carried that (whatever) item.

I would encourage you to call our stores and ask if they carry an item. I would also suggest that you ask the store to order an item if they don't carry it. If you don't give our local businesses a chance by supporting them they will not be able to stay in business.

Shop Rockdale is more important than ever before.
