Milano Opry ahead Saturday at high school
MILANO—The Milano Opry will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Milano High School Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. with concessions available.
Guest headliners will be Paula Fleming of Kempner, Way ne Duke of Chandler and Jacob Austin from Anderson.
Also featured are members of the Opry House Band: Lynn Martin, vocals; Billy Barnett, steel; Glenn Schneider, bass; John Clark Towsley, lead guitar; Johnny Towsley, keyboard; Will Fountain, fiddle; and Larry Rochelle, drums.

Milano VFD sponsors partial estate auction
MILANO—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a partial estate sale of the estate of Oleta Wise from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 and from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept, 19.
Sale items include bedroom suites, chairs, dining room furniture, dishes, living room furniture, appliances and many smaller pieces, a 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 8N Ford Tractor and two-wheel home-built trailer.
Directions: From Milano take FM 3242, go 6.7 miles to CR 343, turn right and go 2.1 miles (white house on the right).

Bushdale Cemetery meeting set Oct. 3
Bushdale Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church Annex, 303 Meadow in Rockdale.
There will be an election of officers to serve for the next two years. Everyone interested in the maintenance of the cemetery is encouraged to attend.
Following the business meeting, a covered dish luncheon will be served. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite dish.

New Salem Club hosts county EEA
New Salem EE A Club met Sept. 3 at the Clubhouse. Marilyn Hicks presided and Florian Skubal led the pledge to the flag and the TEEA prayer and creed.
Members held contract talks with Rotary Club members Rev. Jack Chelf and Lee Jenkins. Kayee Jenkins, a New Salem scholarship winner, spoke on college life and expressed appreciation for her scholarship.
Marilyn Hicks read a thankyou note from the Fire Department Auxiliary. Barbara Walko reported on clubhouse cleaning.
The club hosted the county EEA meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 12. Members brought canned items for the RCS food pantry. Members also discussed buying a new ice machine and freezer.

Murray Cemetery Assn. to meet on Saturday
Murray Cemetery Association will hold its sixth annual meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 in the fellowship hall of Peace Lutheran Church, 303 Meadow Drive in Rockdale.
A covered dish luncheon will follow the business meeting. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite dish. Ice tea, coffee, bread and utensils will be provided.
Persons unable to attend but wishing to send a donation are asked to mail it to Murray Cemetery Association, PO Box 3, Rockdale TX 76567.
All persons having relatives interred in the cemetery or those with an interest in the cemetery are urged to attend the meeting.

4-H to host dance Friday for junior-high
Rockdale 4-H is hosting a junior-high "End of Summer" dance from 8 until 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park. It will be chaperoned by 4-H leaders and there will be a security guard present. Admission charge is $5. "Parents must come to the door to pick up their children at 10 p.m.," said Susan Dean, publicist.
VFW Auxiliary seeking members
Rockdale VFW Post 6525 Ladies Auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. each first Tuesday of the month at the VFW post home.

A new Al-anon group meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Rockdale Christian Church, corner of Sager and Rockdale Road.
"Alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else's drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon fellowship," a spokesman said.
