Milano Exes reunion raises $5,150 for scholarship fund

MILANO—With meals, auctions and donations, the Milano Alumni Scholarship Fund collected $5,150 during the organization's annual homecoming reunion Saturday.

Despite of adverse weather, 101 ex-students, teachers and visitors attended.

Majorie Elam Bailey, a 1936 graduate and former Milano teacher, represented the oldest class in attendance. Her "History of the Consolidation of Community Schools into Milano ISD" was a popular sale item.

Cecil Hurt, Class of 1937, Martha Holdiness Newman, Class of 1941, Raymond (Bud) Shafer, Class of 1944, Joyce Wise Ball, Class of 1945, Calvin Springer, Class of 1947, Jack Burkett, Class of 1948, and Dalpha Hurt Garrison and Alfred Owens, Class of 1949, represented their respective classes.

The Class of 1959 had the most members in attendance, seven.

John Westbrook, Class of 2006, represented the "new generation." Reunion officials hope to see more classes represented next year.

"The Alumni Association appreciates the many donations— money and auction items," said Carolyn Hafley, secretary. "Our goal is to help former students get as much help as we can provide. We hope to give more mini-scholarships in the spring."

A fund-raiser, a seven-day Alaskan cruise, is planned for July 27. For more information call Cindi Jenkins at 512-365-8595 for information.

Ford family reunion

The families of Charlie Franklin and John Wesley Ford met on Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Community Center in Milano for their 58th reunion.

It was a small gathering with only 18 in attendance. However, there was an abundance of good food and great visiting. Door prizes were drawn with most everyone receiving a gift.

A "Guess the Candy Corn" jar was won by Betty Boyd. Blessing of the meal was given by Rex Boyd and the closing prayer was offered by Rev. Jan Campbell.

Attending were Billy and Frances Prescott from Burlington; Bett y and Rex Boyd, Grapevine; Amy Henderson, Mary Jane Starnes, Sharon McCollum, Fort Worth; Becky Thomas, Temple; Paulie McDermott, Cameron; Susan and John Wallis, Brenham; Paul Boyd, Tomball; Tim Boyd, Houston; Kimberlee Summers, Rev. Jan Campbell, Paul Unger, Nancy Willis, and Mary Jane Boyd, Rockdale.

Deceased since the last reunion: Evelyn and Delbert Hess, Corpus Christi; H. B. Christilles, Houston; Wyatt Oates, Cleveland; Ben Ford, Milano; Bill Starnes, Fort Worth; Bob Thomas, Temple; and Delmar Boyd, Rockdale.

Noack family reunion

The 43rd annual reunion of the Noack families (Johann, Jakob, Maria Noack Schulze) will be held Sunday, Oct. 4 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at the Warda picnic grounds.

Coffee and cake will be served beginning at 10:30 a.m. and a covered dish luncheon will be served at noon. Bread, tea, coffee, utensils, cups and plates will be furnished.

RHS Class of 1965

The RHS Class of 1965 will hold its 45th reunion on Oct. 23-25. Activities will include the Rockdale-Caldwell football game with an open reception following the game, and golf and dinner on Saturday, plus a Sunday brunch.

RHS Class of 1969

The RHS Class of 1969 will celebrate its 40th reunion on Oct. 9- 10. Those coming to town on Oct. 9 will be able to visit starting at 6 p.m. at Banda's Restaurant and then go to the RHS homecoming game at 7:30.

Visitation will continue on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Patterson Center beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a catered meal to be served at 6:30.
