Estate sale to benefit MVFD Auxiliary

Milano Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a partial estate sale of Oleta Wise's things from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Sale items include household furniture, appliances and many smaller pieces.

Also for sale will be a 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 8N Ford tractor, two wheel home built trailer. For more information contact Jane Yoakum, 512-446- 5110.

The Auxiliary will also hold their annual garage sale Sept. 24- 26 at the Milano Civic Center/Fire Station. The building will open daily at 8 a.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 21 to receive donations. For more information, contact Yoakum or Carolyn Vinton at 512-455-2364.

The Milano Opry will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Milano High School cafetorium. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Congratulations to Chelsey Burgess on being crowned the 2009 MHS Homecoming queen Friday night. Wet weather and lightning caused the football game with Iola to be canceled and the queen ceremonies to be held inside.

There was a good crowd at the Milano Alumni Association mean on Saturday. There were silent and live auctions. Over $5,000 was raised toward scholarships.

Milano Lions Club has started selling raff le tickets for their annual fund-raiser. Tickets are three for $5. First place is a $200 Walmart gift certificate; second place is a $100 Walmart gift certificate; third place is a $50 Walmart gift certificate. The drawing will be held at the Friday, Nov. 6 Milano-Thrall football game. See any Lions Club member for tickets.

Gospel Fest 2009 is set for Saturday, Sept. 26 behind the First Baptist Church. Music will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will feature talent from around the area. A free meal for the community will be served at 5:30 p.m. A bounce house and kiddie train will keep the kids entertained. The Milano High School National Honor Society will sponsor a blood drive from noon-5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at the high school. For more information, call 512-455-9333.

You can also contact the school at that number regarding 2009- 10 Milano Eagle sweatshirts. They are on sale for $22. Celina Ramos is in charge of the fundraiser.

In football action, junior high will host Anderson-Shiro at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by the varsity playing Giddings State School at 7:30 p.m.

High school volleyball teams will play in Rosebud-Lott on Friday and will start district play on Tuesday, Sept 22 by hosting Bremond.

Junior high volleyball will host Chilton on Monday, Sept. 21 and Calvert on Sept. 28. Games begin at 5 p.m.

We extend our sympathy to the family of Frieda Nelson, formerly of Milano. Services were held Monday at the Liberty Cemetery near Milano.

Enjoyed helping grandson Bradley Bakken celebrate his 4th birthday on Saturday, Sept. 12. Around 30 family members and friends enjoyed the "Go Diego Go" party complete with a pinata.

I am sure I'm not the only one that fussed about all the rain that came at one time, but its nice to see the pastures green and the tanks running over.
