Rockdale's Tigers rang up their first District 24AAA win over rival Cameron Yoemen 41-21. RB Daniel Brooks had 2 touchdowns and 177 yards, while QB Joe Sanders rushed for 3 TDs and connected with Tyler Wright for another. Defensive standouts were Wright, Juan Estrada and Casey Burrough. Ratliff, Arledge head to MCAD board
Rockdale ISD sends local business representatives to directorships
The Rockdale ISD is giving "the business" to the Milam County Appraisal District (MCAD) board of directors. Literally. School trustees on Monday nominated Rockdale business people Joan Ratliff and Tim Arledge to the MCAD board which oversees the appraisal district's activities. Full Story
Annual '5-Kay Run-Unr un' Saturday to aid restoration
The old girl's looking better all the time. Saturday is the fourth annual 5-Kay RunUnrun to benefit the Kay Theatre, Rockdale's 62- year old former Theatre, which is being restored as a cultural and performing arts center. Runners who only come to Rockdale once a year will notice how much better the Kay looks this time around. Full Story
School building projects wind down 'in the black'
Trustees adopt same tax rate, approve ball field specifications
The $30.8-million bond construction program which built the new intermediate school and a mostly new high school will end up "in the black." Consultant Dr. Ned Walton told Rockdale ISD trustees Monday at least $20,000 to $30,000 in unspent funds from Rockdale's largest bond program ever would be returned to the district. Full Story
Leadership class begins for Milam group
Last week was such a busy week but a good one. We started a Leadership Milam class that will go throughout the year with representatives from around the county to work together to make Milam County better. We met at Morningstar Ranch in Milano and the two-day event was very uplifting and encouraging that the county truly does want to work together. Full Story
CARSEATS IN DEMAND
Little River Healthcare held a childcare seat giveaway and had cars lined up around the block last Wednesday to receive over 100 car seats. Above DPS Trooper, and certified car seat technician, Jeremy Weiser helps select and install a car seat for a parent. Full Story
Milam jobless rate steady at just over 10%
There are 36 counties out of 254 in Texas with a jobless rate of 10-percent or higher.
Joblessness has doubled in the past year in Milam County. The Texas Workforce Commission's August numbers showed unemployment at 10.2 percent for Milam, compared to 5.0 percent one year ago. Last September, layoffs were announced at Alcoa's Rockdale Operations. Full Story
