RISD new substitute training set Thursday

Training for new substitute teachers will be held from 7:45- 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Rockdale Intermediate School library. A continental breakfast will be served.

Individuals interested in becoming substitutes should plan on attending. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and consent to a criminal background check. Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office prior to the training.

St. Paul kids holding fish fry for D.C. trip

The 7th and 8th graders at St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale are busy working on plans for their educational trip to Washington D.C. in April, according to principal Cindy Melcher.

The f irst event t hey have planned is a fish fry at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 in the school's Family Activity Center, located on the corner of Hw y 79 and Third St.

The meal will include fried catfish and all the trimmings for $8 a plate, Melcher said. Plates are also available to-go.

"This is a very industrious group of students who are working very hard to make this trip a reality," Melcher said. For more information contact the school office at 512-898-2711.

Rockdale PTO sets first meeting of school year

The Rockdale Parent-Teacher Organziation (PTO) membership drive is under way, according to Tiffany Prestridge, the group's president.

The group's goal this year is to have 500 members by Oct. 31 Prestridge said. The group has made some schedule changes and will now hold its first meeting of the school year at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. For any other questions about Rockdale PTO, contact Prestridge at 512-269-9378.
