Rockdale police lead in solving major crimes
A statistical study released by state law enforcement authorities recently lists the Rockdale Police Department with the highest percentage of solved major crimes in Milam County for 2008. Police Chief Thomas Harris said the study "2008 Crime in Texas" shows a total of 270 major crimes reported in Rockdale. Full Story
Autopsy report awaited after body found on Monday
Police are awaiting autopsy results after the body of a 26- year-old Rockdale man was discovered Monday by Ofc. Danice Steinbecker. She said Dustin Green's body was discovered at 5:30 p.m. inside 620 Mill Street. "He had been missing since Thursday," Steinbecker said. "On Monday we were advised to check on that address and that's where he was. Full Story
Cameron police nab two for drugs
Two persons were arrested Monday in a Cameron shopping center parking lot and charged with drug offenses following what police called a "drug transaction." Dale Eugene Mueck, 51, Cameron, was charged with manufacture/ delivery of a controlled substance (4 to 28 grams). He is being held without bond. Full Story
Horrific' housekeeping leads to two grand jury indictments
A 45-year-old Cameron man drew three child endangerment indictments by a Milam County grand jury Thursday after "horrific" home conditions were alleged. Tony Lynn Mayer has remained in the Milam County Jail on $100,000 bond since his arrest in June by Cameron police. Full Story
Rockdale resident convicted in home invasion, drug theft
A 35-year-old Rockdale man was convicted of home invasion and a drug offense by a Milam County jury last week. Prosecutor Kerry Spears successfully argued that Sammie Lee Ford Jr. broke into a Ben Arnold home Aug. 28, 2008, to steal cocaine at gunpoint f r om a not her drug dealer. Full Story
Woman pleads guilty in shooting incident
CA MERON—A 25-year-old Coupland woman pleaded guilty to a shooting incident last week in 20th District Court and received a probated sentence. Bertha A licia Leal-Mirales pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drew five years deferred adjudication probation, a 60-day county jail term and was ordered to pay $3,304.83 restitution. Troopers probe wrecks
Two persons escaped injury in a trio of one-vehicle accidents on South Milam County roads during the past week, according to state troopers. Philip Olvera, 40, of Rockdale was not injured at 8:50 p.m. Sept. 23 when his vehicle struck a cow on FM 486, 1. Full Story
