Go 'Downtown' by the river for Saturday event

QUICK LOOK

Milam County hasn't had a new community formed in about 150 years. But come 6 p.m. Saturday, "Downtown, Texas" will be dedicated during the 4th Annual Ride to the River at Apache Pass (9112 North FM 908).

Paula Nelson, daughter of Red-Headed Stranger Willie Nelson, will be on hand to offi- ciate the ceremony. The unincorporated community was formed as interest was spurred from residents, landowners and business owners in the area.

The area is rich in history, having hosted sites of three Spanish missions, and is considered near the El Camino Real de los Tejas, a national historic trail.

The Worley family has owned the land for over 130 years.
