Council calls special election Jan. 9 to fill unexpired term

Rockdale cit y council met briefly Monday to call a special election for Jan. 9, 2010 to fill the unexpired term of west-ward councilman Griffin Rogers.

Rogers was removed from the council after a delinquent tax notice was filed on a business he ran. Rogers said the matter was cleared up before he was removed but did not want to fight the measure.

Rogers had also missed more than three meetings in a row due to illness after he was involved in an automobile accident which led to other complications.

The west-side term ends in May 2011.

Early voting will be held Dec. 23 through Jan. 5 at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The council also authorized City Manager Kelvin Knauf to enter into an agreement with KSA Engineers for $39,300 to design a large wastewater line roughly 1,250 feet in length from Mill Street to a larger line on Hickory Street.

The council also hired Michelle Lehmkuhl as attorney for the city.

They also appointed Tom Fisher as a second council member to serve on the parks board.
