Eastern Star sets garage sale Saturday

Rockdale Chapter No. 23 of the Eastern Star w ill hold a garage sale Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Masonic Lodge No. 414 building, 789 North US 77.

Sale hours will be from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. "Baskets, books clothing, Christmas decorations and many other items will be available," said Mary A. Poe, finance chair. "Everyone is invited to come out and shop."

Hospital Auxiliary to meet Wednesday

Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will meet at noon Wednesday, Oct. 7 in the hospital cafeteria. On the agenda will be the Christmas luncheon and silent auction, according to Sue Ohlswager, president.

New auxiliary members are always welcome. If interested, please stop by the hospital and pick up an application and return it to Melissa Tackett, marketing manager at the hospital.

4-H to sponsor jr-hi dance Friday

Rockdale 4-H Club will host a Junior-High Pre-Homecoming Dance on Friday, Oct. 2 from 8 until 10 p.m. at New Salem Building Clubhouse in Fair Park. It will be chaperoned by 4-H leaders, and there will be a security guard in attendance.

There w ill be a $5 charge. Parents must come to the door to pick up their children at 10 p.m. For more information, call Susan Dean at 446-2845.

Linwood Acres club to meet October 14

Linwood Acres Garden Club will meet Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the home of Carolyn Calhoun, 3412 CR 334. Coffee and refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. The program will begin at 10 a.m. with the business meeting immediately following. Ann Dyer and Joy Graham will be co-hostesses.

The program, "Let's Get Potted," will be presented by Carolyn Calhoun and Billie Noack. They will explain and demonstrate the finer points of container gardening. Examples of various planted containers will be exhibited.

October Yard-of-the-Month Judges are Sue Eubanks and Leah Thomason. Yard-of-the- Month judges for November are Ann Dyer and Carole Simank. Each month, the club recognizes an area garden that helps beautify the community by its plant selections, color, organization and maintenance. Yards may be nominated by calling the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce at 446-2030.

The Rockdale Knights of Columbus will host a free community Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the KC Hall

Fab Five concert Saturday in Cameron

CAMERON—Fab Five of Austin, playing music from the 1950s to the 1990s, will play at the "Concert on the Bridge, Under the Stars," on the old iron bridge at Ledbetter Park in Cameron on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 6 until 10 p.m.

"There will be dancing, hamburgers served made to order and drinks," said Barbara Hajovsky, publicist. "Cost is $15 per person."

Caregivers group to discuss medications

CAMERON—All interested persons are invited to join the Caregivers Support group from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 in the Cameron Chamber of Commerce meeting room for facts on "Medications and the Elderly—What Caregivers Should Know."

Bushdale Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church Annex, 303 Meadow in Rockdale.

There will be an election of officers to serve for the next two years. Everyone interested in the maintenance of the cemetery is encouraged to attend.

"Alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else's drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon fellowship," a spokesman said.

Milano Exes set cruise for scholarship fund

MILANO—A seven-day Carnival Alaskan Cruise starting July 27, 2010 will help the Milano Ex-Students Association raise scholarship funds, according to Crystal Denman, organizer.

The cruise leaves from Seattle, WA w ith stops at Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Victoria, BC. Prices per person are from $996 for an interior cabin to $1,486 for a balcony cabin.

Gratuity is included in the price. Deposit is $100 per person and tentative deadline is Oct. 15, 2009.
