Luminant pledges to remedy 'buzzing'

Luminant Energy says it hears the buzz from people who live in the vicinity of the new Sandow 5 power plant and have expressed concern over a humming sound emanating from the structure.

"We understand our neighbors' concerns and are working diligently to resolve this issue as soon as possible," Ashley Monts, Luminant spokesperson, said.

Monts said the company is planning to make alterations to the plant.

"We have work scheduled for next month to resolve the issue," she said.

"In the meantime we would be happy to speak with others who have concerns," she said.

Control of the brand new, 581- megawatt power plant passed from the builder, Bechtol-Becon, to Luminant last month.

A rea residents have complained about the noise and Luminant has acknowledged a "steady hum and low frequency vibrations."

Some Luminant neighbors, who have contacted The Reporter during the past two weeks, have other names for the noise.

One, who preferred to remain anonymous, termed Sandow 5 the "boombox from hell."

Luminant says it is in contact with Sandow 5 neighbors to "explain the situation and the next steps planned."
