Fair volunteers pull off another great event

Coming off of the Rockdale Fair Week I know many of us are feeling the tired. But it is a good tired because it was a great week.

I won two reserve grand champions and one grand champion on my projects in the Home Economics Division— what fun! It seemed like the entries at the Home Demonstration Club were up this year and that made for a great display. I am already working on my entries for next year.

The Chamber float won Best Decorated in the Fair Parade and thanks to my brother Rick and my husband James for all the good help with that float. Homer Mowdy provided the Basset Hound Transport and that was much appreciated.

The attendance was good and the weather was perfect.

Good job to the Rockdale Fair committee for all their hard work. This kind of project is a major undertaking — the number of volunteers is astronomical, the plans are endless and the issues are new every day.

But the Rockdale Fair committee pulled it off gallantly.

Depot fun

The activity in Rockdale continues with the Living History Day at the Depot this Saturday.

It will be a big day for the Depot and for Rockdale as the Rockdale Historical Society showcases the newly finished Blacksmith Shop and has demonstrations of flintknapper, candlemakers, telegrapher, reenactments and much more.

Come out and support their hard work. They will also have their famous sausage wraps and drinks available for purchase as well as other depot gift items.
