Milam Democrats launch web site

Democrats in Milam County have a new tool to communicate with each other and with local party leaders.

"If we learned nothing else from the 2008 election, we should have learned that the Internet and social media have huge potentials to help organize and share ideas, especially among young voters," said Richard Stone, chairman of the Milam County Democratic Party.

To that end, Stone said, the party has launched a new Web site at www.MilamCountyDemocrats. org.

"It's a fairly simple site and it is still a work in progress," he said. "Right now, you can go to the site and find contact information for all the current elected Democratic officials in the county, for party officials like Precinct Chairmen, and links to several helpful Web sites like the state party, the national party, the Texas Secretary of State and the Texas League of Women Voters."

Stone said he hopes to establish

a secure link from the site for people who want to contribute to Party activities and sign up for volunteer efforts. "That part of the site isn't secure, yet. However, there is a link to an email address that will put folks in touch with a party official who can help them out."

There is also a companion Facebook page, he said. "The URL is a bit awkward but Facebook members can simply search for Milam County Democrats and our page will pop up."

Among other things, he said, the Facebook page has the opportunity for forums for local activists and friends of the party to exchange information and set up events.

"If you have any questions or helpful suggestions about this, you can get in touch with me through the website," Stone said. "Or, if you'd rather, you get in touch with me the old-fashioned way — my cell phone number is 512-760-5748."
