Milano clinches second straight district crown

Lady Eagles move up to No. 9 in state rankings; winning streak at 14

The winning streak is now at 14 for Milano's Lady Eagles volleyball team who claimed their second consecutive district title with wins over Chilton and Buckholts during the week.

The Lady Eagles (28-10, 9-0) also cracked the Top 10 of the Texas Girls Coaches Association's Class A volleyball this week at No. 9.

Milano will finish up its regular season on Friday when it hosts Calvert for one game at 5 p.m.

"I'm glad the girls are being recognized although I think that may be a little high for us," Lady Eagles head coach Wendy King said. "They work hard and deser ve any recognition that comes our way. They are all very committed to our program and proud of what we do, me included."

Milano swept Chilton on the road Tuesday night 25-9, 25-19 and 25-14.

"We played well in the first set and then starting making uncharacteristic passing errors coupled with characteristic hitting errors. We gave away a lot of points to them," King said.

Masey Turnage recorded six kills, three digs and two aces, Desiree Adrian six kills, Taryn Love three kills and Brittany Compton four digs and three aces.

Allison Dodd tallied 17 assists and two kills, while Stephanie Philpott had eight assists, two digs and two aces.

The Lady Eagles travel to Buckholts on Friday, crushing the Lady Badgers 25-3, 25-5, 25-3.

Masey Turnage had 12 kills, Jenna Morgan six kills, Desiree Adrian five kills and Taryn Love two kills.

Brittany Compton had five aces, while Stephanie Phillpott and Allison Dodd had 12 and eight assists, respectively.

Milano has yet to lose a game or set in District 16-A play.
