The shop, a restoration of the Dockall-Timmerman blacksmith shop in the Gay Hill community west of Rockdale, was dedicated by the Rockdale Historical Society during its Living History Day Saturday. The day also featured displays of candle making, guns and other military paraphernalia, railroad signals, flint knapping and more. Luminant says work will address noise issue
Area residents' nerves 'are shot,' says woman seeking cooperation
Luminant will begin installing steel plates Nov. 6 at its Sandow Power Plant Unit 5, a two-week project that is expected to reduce vibrating noises which have been the subject of complaints in recent weeks. Laura Starnes, manager of corporate communications for Luminant, said the work is estimated to last two weeks during which time Sandow 5 will be off-line. Full Story

'KING FOR A DAY' Rockdale Intermediate School fifth grader Blake King was named this year's Luminant Scholar for Rockdale ISD. Luminant, the state's largest power generation company, sponsored its annual scholar program in select Texas public school districts. The essay-writing contest provides fifth graders an opportunity to share their thoughts on the state of the environment and how they can improve it, with the authors of the top essay at each school winning $1,000 saving bond scholarships for their future education. Presenting the check to King were Luminant Scholar Director Robert Gentry, Rockdale ISD Supt. Howell Wright and Rockdale Intermediate Assistant Principal Kurt Streck. Full Story
