VFW Auxiliary State President Cleo Hornsby recently made her visit to District 28 in Central Texas. Accompanying her on the trip was State Conductress Melanie McConaghy. During the weekend District 28 President Linda Towers and other Auxiliary members took her to several points of interest, visiting the VA Financial Service Center in Austin, and VFW Post 8787 and its Auxiliary. The group also attended the play, "You Can't Do That, Dan Moody," in Georgetown at the renovated Williamson County Court House. They also visited the Moody Museum in Taylor where the picture was taken on the side porch. Final free clothing give-away Saturday

The third and final free clothing give-away of 2009 in Rockdale will be held from 8 until 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Lodge Hall building on Third Street in Rockdale, sponsored by Billy Ray and Laura Locklin and Lisa's Hope Chest of Austin.

Hospital Auxiliary cookie sale Friday

Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be having a cookie sale on Friday, Oct. 30 as their fall fund-raiser. Auxiliary members will be selling their homemade cookies for $2 per bag at the hospital, at the downtown Citizens National Bank, and out in the community from 10 a.m. until noon. All monies made will go towards future hospital projects, said Sue Ohlswager, Auxiliary president.

RJH student dance set Friday at Clubhouse

Rockdale 4-H Club will host a Halloween dance for all Rockdale Junior-High School students from 8 until 10 p.m. Friday at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.

Admission is $5 per person and includes one free soda. Parents must pick up students at the door at the end of the dance. The dance will be supervised with parents and security, according to Rebecca Luckey, spokesperson.

CAMERON—Milam County Aggie Moms will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 200 North Travis Street in Cameron, according to Leslie Davidson, publicist.

Milano Jamboree Saturday at 7 p.m.

MILANO—The Milano Senior Citizens will sponsor the monthly Milano Country & Gospel Jamboree at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Milano Civic Center.

"All listeners and musicians are invited," said Tena Galbreath, publicist. "Admission and refreshments are free and there will be 'trick or treat' for senior citizens."

4-H to serve baked potato lunch Sunday

Rockdale 4-H will hold a "Big Baked Potato Luncheon" from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Patterson Civic Center. The lunch will cost $7 and will also include tea and dessert.

Choice of potatoes are traditional, broccoli and cheese, and chili and cheese. The plate lunch will be to eat there or to go with a drive through available.

Young at Heart

Rockdale Young at Heart will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 in the McCawley Oaks Apartments meeting room. Hostesses will be Eva Mikes and Nan Muston.

Interested persons are invited to bring a salad and enjoy an evening of cards/dominos, said Marie Story (446-6877).

There will be no meeting in December. The next meetng will be Jan. 4.

Hospital Auxiliary sets luncheon/auction event

Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Christmas luncheon and silent auction from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at St. John's United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

This will be the Auxiliary's main fund-raiser for the year, according to Sue Ohlswager, president. Tickets for the hot lunch are $10 each and can be purchased at the hospital's front desk or from any Auxiliary member.

Donations of gently used and new items for the silent auction will be welcomed. To make a donation, call Ohlswager, 446- 2282.

The group will have its regular monthly meeting at noon Wednesday, Nov. 4 in the hospital cafeteria. Ohlswager listed agenda items as the Christmas luncheon and silent auction, and holiday decorating of the hospital.

The RMH Auxiliary welcomes new members. If interested, fill out an application that can be found by the time clock at the hospital and return it to Melissa Tackett, the hospital's public relations manager.

Milano boosters set chili supper Nov. 6

MIL A NO—Members of the Milano Athletic Booster Club will hold a chili supper at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, prior to the Eagles home football game against the Thrall Tigers.

The supper will be held in the Milano Junior-High Cafeteria and will include "chili and all the fixings, tea and dessert, according to Karen Gray, publicist.

KCs to host Fall Festival Friday

The Rockdale Knights of Columbus will host a free community Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the KC Hall.

Work session set for Minerva cemetery

The Minerva Community Cemetery Association will hold a work session from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 9 at the Minerva Community Cemetery, according to Linda Jenkins, secretary.

"There is a need to repair and level some of the headstones and to remove dead tree limbs, she said. "Please come and join us if you have the time and energy."

Milam retired teachers set Thanksgiving meal

Next Milam County Retired Teachers Association meeting will be Nov. 5 at Peace Lutheran Church fellowship hall (303 Meadow Drive) in Rockdale for the annual Thanksgiving covered dish luncheon, according to Carolyn Hafley, secretary.

The lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. and members are asked to bring either a salad, vegetable, deseertor any dish as they have in the past. Volunteers are asked to bring a child's book, books, cash or check for the Children's Book Project.

Members are reminded to bring their volunteer hours and miles walked, Hafley said.

Musical Club sets handbell concert

On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 15, the Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale will sponsor a concert for the public, Annette Griesbach, president, has announced.

"A r ra ngement s have been made for the East Texas Handbell Ensemble, under the direction of Arnold Sherman, to perform at the Rockdale Junior-High School Commons at 4 p.m.," she said.

Tickets are $7 and can be purchased from a music club member in advance or at the door. Proceeds will go the Louise Hale Sessions Memorial Scholarship which goes to a graduating senior planning to pursue music beyond high school.

East Texas Handbell Ensemble (ETHE) is a professional group of 15 members from the Tyler area dedicated to advancing the art of English handbell ringing. The group performs on 7 octaves of Malmark Choirchimes and often incorporates percussive and woodwind instruments which help create the group's unique, dynamic style of musical interpretation.

Their director, Arnold Sherman, was the music and youth director at St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockdale from 1969 to 1976, as well as director of both the Regeneration Singers and the Rockdale Adult Community Choir.

Refreshments will be served during intermission.
